Yoga is a science of experience. How do the different experiences in your world impact how your body, mind, and emotions function?

As human beings, we have complicated, multidimensional systems that are interconnected at every level. Your body is influenced by your breath, your breath influenced by your emotions. your emotions are impacted by your thoughts as well as the reverse.

Knowing how all these different levels interact and what the symptoms are is the important foundation of utilizing yoga in healing. When you are able to dissect, to focus on the specific levels, you begin to see the underlying causes behind suffering.

Join us Friday, January 19th to unleash the self-empowerment within the process of Yoga Therapy.

Introduce yourself to the holistic view of the human system. Discover the foundation of this therapeutic approach of yoga, explaining how and why yoga works. Yoga offers different techniques as intentionally engineered experiences. As you discover how each technique impacts your whole being, you learn how to approach yoga as a source of healing.

Chakras, discs, wheels…these mysterious vortices of light and energy tell the stories of our lives from the past, present, and even future. In the 7 Chakra model, we begin our journey from our seat, purposefully named the Root chakra or Muladhara. As we climb up and around the spinal column purifying, exploring, and discovering, we integrate all of these Chakras together to establish a Divine connection at the top or 7th Chakra (Sahasrara). As we clear and connect to the top or Crown Chakra, we get to embrace the opportunity to melt into spiritual enlightenment and our highest good. This experience is not saved for sages or those thought to be all-knowing. We all can and should experience this enlightenment. We may not be able to live in this realm 100% of the time, but we are there when we receive ‘ah-ha’ moments and when everything seems to sync up & align. You know you are there when the sound of your child’s laughter makes your heart fill up your and your face lights up. You know you are there when you experience unwavering clarity and you know something is undoubtedly right for you. You know you are there when you connect to yourself in a way where no one can rock your boat.

Depending on the various traumatic events that occur through our lives, we can get ‘stuck’ in one or more of these energy centers. When this happens, the whole Chakra system can be thrown off as we become overly excessive or deficient in these Chakras. In result, the other Chakras can be affected and may not function like they should. This Being human is a constant learning process and we need to study and own our unique karmic patterns and experiences to move through in this lifetime. We may not always be able to control what is given to us, but we can choose how we respond and recover.

In this workshop, expect to relax, open, and give into the sweet side of these energy centers through a specific Restorative practice using a Chakra yoga sequence. Essential oils, props, and poetic inspiration  will assist you into surrendering to align and allow these Chakras o balance through surrender, you can begin to live life from the inside-out in a more genuine and on-purpose way. Aware and awake, it becomes easier to notice the lessons from our stories and we can then journey through and move on to the next chapter a little wiser and with more reverence.

Half Moon will be hosting a Book Club for our community beginning January 2018! We will be meeting on the 4th Friday of each month at 10:45am. As you know, yoga is a mind/body/spiritual practice and often our teachers refer to books that provide them with guidance and inspiration. Since many of you have expressed an interest in going further in your practice through exploring and discussing some of these great books. Some of our first selections will be about finding your dharma, having an attitude of abundance, using yoga’s ethical principles in your daily life, and how to be more present in the moment. Since it will be your book club, we hope you will participate in recommending choices in the future.

The first book we have selected is BRINGING YOUR YOGA TO LIFE: THE EVERYDAY PRACTICE OF ENLIGHTENED LIVING by Donna Farhi. Internationally renowned and bestselling author Donna Farhi moves yoga practice beyond the mat into our everyday lives, restoring the tradition’s intended function as a complete, practical philosophy for daily living. Expanding upon the teachings of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, the core text of the yoga tradition. Donna describes yoga’s transformational power as a complete life practice, far beyond it’s common reduction to mere exercise or stress management. This is the philosophy of yoga as a path to a deeper awareness of self. Drawing upon her years of teaching with students, farhi guides readers through all the pitfalls and promises of navigating a spiritual practice.

Yoga is considered a mind/body practice yet so many Americans tend to look at yoga as being just exercise for physical fitness. After attending some classes, you may pick up on more whether it’s overt or through certain philosophical or spiritual undertones. Robbie wants to guide you in a 2 part series regarding basic yogic philosophy so you have a greater understanding that the practice extends on & off the mat, something to practice inside & out, towards oneself and others.

She will teach the 8-Limbed path called Ashtanga, not to be confused by the actual style. In this first part of the series, we will go over in detail both the Yamas and the Niyamas. They are written like a moral ethical code of conduct. The yamas considered the first step on this 8-limbed path tells us what to restrain from concerning our behaviors and interactions with others while the niyamas, the 2nd step, tell us what to do or observe for ourselves.

In the 2nd series of these workshops, Robbie will share steps 3-8 on the 8-limbed path but this first series is considered the foundation on which to ‘live your yoga’. This is a fascinating subject and it’s good to be introduced if you are new to yoga or something great to revisit if you are an avid practitioner. There is always something to learn and be contemplative about through these studies as we are ever evolving beings!

WITH Robbie Short $60/per couple and limited to 10 couples

Robbie began a new workshop idea about 6 years ago to honor couples around Valentine’s Day. The concept stemmed from a regular Partner’s workshop where she wanted to teach tantric principles to make it more of an intimate experience. The idea of this workshop is not necessarily centered just around poses, but rather creating a deep soul connection between you and your lover. This could be a call of remembrance to the love you share or why you fell in love to begin with. This is about truly being present with your special loved one and bringing the yoga into your relationship. No prior yoga experience is required but you will be expected to trust and tenderly touch each other. Roses will be gifted to you and chocolate covered strawberries and champagne will be available.
